Untitled 189

Pastel on UArt, approx. 4.5" x 5".

This one and the next one I'm going to post (Untitleds 189 and 190) make a really nice pair. I'm going to be framing them and about seven others for my next show, which I will be hanging on Dec.28.

I'm a little bit worried about Rumi. He had his annual checkup recently, and has lost 10% of his body weight--and he was already a very slim cat. It's strange, for a young and otherwise apparently healthy cat. The vet wants me to bring him in again in about 6 more weeks to reweigh him. He's a very hyperactive cat and I think maybe he just burns off more calories than he can hold onto. His symptoms sound like hyperthyroid, but usually only senior cats suffer from that; Rumi is still a spring chicken.

Something a bit different... For the last couple of weeks, I've suddenly gotten into a groove of doing squares. Perhaps I've gone from channeling Rothko to lightly channeling Josef Albers.

If anyone is in Boulder tonight, head over to the Millennium Harvest Hotel from 6 - 8pm for an artists' reception (for me and three other artists). I've been told they do the best reception of anywhere in the city. Check out the art and grab some free refreshments.

Painting awarded

Found out that this pastel, "Gubbio Roofs," was awarded an Honorable Mention this weekend in the Longmont Artists' Guild & Boulder Art Association Annual Members' Exhibition.

They kill me when they sit like this with their front paws curled in.

Art show

I found out a few days ago that these three pieces (out of six submitted) were juried into the upcoming Boulder Art Association show. (I think the other three were just as nice, if I do say so.) I currently also have a solo exhibition up in pastels at the Solstice Center (here in Boulder, CO).

I'd been away in Mexico and got the snail-mail news about these 3 pieces getting in to the show only upon returning, and I was like, Cool!  Then about three seconds later I thought, Oh, right, uh, shit, they have to get framed. Of course, it was then the holidays, and everything was shut down or on half-day hours, etc.... which meant I had to go in to the framer yesterday and beg sheepishly, because these suckers have to be hung this Mon.a.m. (Yes, I will have to get up at some ungodly [for me] hour to schlep my artworks to the library, site of the exhibition.)  Anyway, it's all good (I hate that expression. It is NOT all good. Getting up early, for example, is bad).

Feeling rather under the weather (another weird expression) today, so am not painting. Rather, contenting myself with salivating over other people's art online, in mags, etc.

The two sunflowers are oils: one 6" x 6", the other 5" x 7".  The pastel is 6" x 9" (not including the mat).
