Every time we go to a Thai restaurant, I order regular (i.e., fairly hot) and The Husband orders "Thai hot," which comes with slices of fresh hot chilies piled high. More art on my website: jalapfaff.com
Yummy. Now I'm both hungry and impressed. Really nice arrangement. You've captured the peppers nicely. Your husband must be a hit with the thai waitresses. We have several Thai friends and they claim that it is common for the women to gauge men by the amount of heat they can handle. In their food that is.
Karen - Thank you. For whatever reason, composition has always seemed very intuitive to me--it just "looks right" to me or it doesn't. In art school we had one composition class and all it did was make me nervous. I do better by instinct.
Brian E - You crack me up. Indeed there is one waitress in particular who seems to have a crush on The Husband. (I didn't know that about Thai women!)
Loriann - I don't use any medium. Occasionally I've tried some, to "see what I've been missing," but either haven't liked them, or else have a bad physical reaction to them (I'm very very sensitive to fumes).
I'm a painter (and writer and Spanish instructor) living in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I studied classical art in an ARC (Art Renewal Center) school, Colorado Academy of Art, full-time for two years, in order to benefit from the rigorous atelier-style training. I am currently dedicated to exploring abstract and semi-abstract art, working in oil and also in soft pastel. I firmly believe that all human beings are creative, whether or not they have yet found an outlet for the innate creative urge, and that the creative arts are the highest form of human expression. Jala, Your diversity is really impressive! Your portrait work and still life paintings are both beautiful! All really well done!
Hi Jala,
Hot stuff! Another beautiful painting. Really love that painting of the lock, too.
Nice. Playful composition. I like with your still lifes how you make the composition look "simple", i.e. they're always just right.

Fluid composition complimented by lovely brushwork. Gorgeous as always. What medium do you use?
Gorgeous color, dramatic shadows, perfect pop of highlights... and I LOVE that blue reflection on the righthand green chili.
WONDERFUL painting, Jala - I love the color combo and how the orange pepper just pops.
Nancy and R - Thank you so much.
