What a stunning portrait. You've rendered this with ease and your brush strokes are so confident. The woman's eyes have such volume and depth.
I like, too, that the earring seems to be a lovely dance between the light in the model's eyes and the light reflected off of the earring.

Laurel - Thank you... I still always feel that I don't know what I'm doing, though. I'm still a relative novice. My teacher also is going to make me do shadows less strong, or so she was hinting...

Brian E - Thanks. I enjoyed the simplicity of doing her hair (and it was almost perfectly raw siena), and her eyes were so lovely that I tried hard to capture them.
Diane - Thank you. The background came out warmer than usual this time (too much raw siena used in the mix), and I thought it was going to cause problems, but in the end I liked it, because I think it gave an overall very warm feeling to the whole piece.
Melinda - Thanks much. Funny you mention the earring. It was a very last-minute decision, and I struggled with the correct value and saturation of it. My teacher was right, I think, to suggest just a highlight on the edge. I think it does make her eye highlights dance, too.

The areas in the dark are so boldly dark yet you can see the turns easily. -- Just gorgeous work!

Marian - Thank you so much! It's funny about the vignetting thing, because after talking so much about i on the comments on your blog, there I went and did a LESS vignetted than normal portrait. Go figure. :)
