This is absolutely great Jala. Thank you for adding me to your bloglist. I have added you too to my site! Have a great weekend and kiss the black cat from me!
Beauty, I love the way you kept the dark areas warm and vaguely massed and pull attention to the more defined eyes. Not to mention the excellent rendition of hair. Very, very nice
Laurel - Thank you... I still always feel that I don't know what I'm doing, though. I'm still a relative novice. My teacher also is going to make me do shadows less strong, or so she was hinting...
RomanticRoses - I'll kiss both black cats for you.
Bill - Merci beaucoup.
Brian E - Thanks. I enjoyed the simplicity of doing her hair (and it was almost perfectly raw siena), and her eyes were so lovely that I tried hard to capture them.
Diane - Thank you. The background came out warmer than usual this time (too much raw siena used in the mix), and I thought it was going to cause problems, but in the end I liked it, because I think it gave an overall very warm feeling to the whole piece.
Melinda - Thanks much. Funny you mention the earring. It was a very last-minute decision, and I struggled with the correct value and saturation of it. My teacher was right, I think, to suggest just a highlight on the edge. I think it does make her eye highlights dance, too.
Marian - Thank you so much! It's funny about the vignetting thing, because after talking so much about i on the comments on your blog, there I went and did a LESS vignetted than normal portrait. Go figure. :)
Brian M - Thank you! I wish you could see her eyes in person.

Wow, Jala. This is very striking! Wonderful skintones and light effects. Beautiful!
Hi Jala!
What a stunning portrait. You've rendered this with ease and your brush strokes are so confident. The woman's eyes have such volume and depth.
I like, too, that the earring seems to be a lovely dance between the light in the model's eyes and the light reflected off of the earring.
Loriann - Thank you!

Now THAT'S a beautiful vignette!!
The areas in the dark are so boldly dark yet you can see the turns easily. -- Just gorgeous work!
This is beautiful, Jala. I agree with all of the praise above - her eyes and earring are especially beautifully done.
