Jala, you are a serious inspiration for me to try portraits. I always especially love how you build out from the focal area and leave the rest so loose. I mean, look at that chapeau!!
What an absolutely gorgeous use of greens and blues next to those oh, so warm orange/siennas. Plus, you really captured the feeling of who he is. Snake hunter and all. BEAUTIFUL!
Karen - thank you so much! It's a wonderful feeling to inspire a fellow artist. And thank you for noticing--I am really trying hard to concentrate on the focal area and leave everything else just suggested. My inspiration for this kind of portrait is absolutely Richard Schmid.
Loriann - thank you! When my instructor came around and saw my painting in progress, I think her eyes about popped out. "Wow!" she said, and was momentarily speechless, then "That's really revved up!" P.S. I played around a little with your photos and will post some of the results soon, after I live with them a couple more days.
