Taro

The Husband loves to buy exotic vegetables. The result of cooking of them isn't always great, but having lots of fun stuff to try painting is great.

With these, I had intended a very soft, blendy, classical look. Ha! The art gods love it when you have an intention. They think it's hilarious and just try to foil it any way they can. So instead I ended up with this, a much more alla prima painterly look. It's also fine, just not what I intended (hear me, art gods?).

I hear you Jala. I feel your pain as I just finished a very disappointing (well intended)one...or it finished me. Intentions are important. We need them to have direction. It's the struggle that teaches us...I think?!?!

Hi Jala, I love how these vegetables seem to be looking at each other. You did a great job with a difficult subject!

Ah yes, more roots. I like it and your attitude about it.

These are certainly STRANGE creatures!!! WHAT do they taste like... I think I'd be afraid to eat them.

The green pears in the next post are beautiful though. Isn't it funny how much our mood affects how a painting goes??

I really like these guys - so earthy and unusual. I like how you've done it all in planes.

Loriann - I LIKED yours! It certainly seemed different than your usuals...but I think you should look at it for a few weeks, you might end up liking it as much as I did. Perhaps it's a foretaste of where YOUR style is heading. ?

Janelle - Thanks. They do seem to be sharing secrets or conferring.

Brian E - Ah yes, I forgot how much you love the root veggies!

Marian- Thanks for the pears compliment. These taro are a staple starch food in places like Hawaii and Pacific islands. They're kind of like a purplish potato but (to my palate) with no flavor. Not my favorite thing.

Patrice - Thanks. Definitely a change from the luscious fruit paintings. They look very animate to me. I like Marian's description here of "strange creatures." :)
