Still experiencing personal weirdness in my painting process--this started out very realistic, then got very simplified and abstracted a la Carol Marine, then went to this. Obviously my style is wandering all over the place--even within a single painting session!--trying to figure out where the hell it wants to go. I'm trying to be patient and receptive to this process, but it can be so frustrating!! The desire is to want things in life (including, but not limited to, one's painting style) to be fixed, defined, stable, dependable.

What delicious colors Jala. It seems like these pears are beginning to speak to you. Follow and listen to them.
Well it wandered into a very good place. This is delightful. I wouldn't worry too much about your style. Whether you are aware of it or not, you have a very distinctive style that exhibits in all your work. It has to do with your choice of rich yet subtle colors and your value scale, which leans toward dark and mid-dark with very little light values.
Gorgeous! I love the colors; kind of a split complementary(?). Great to see the pear picking up reflections from the background.
I agree with Carol; your work is very distinctive. Style seems to find its own level, no matter how much we try to lead it.
I'm the kind of person who reads the end of a novel first, just so I know what's going to happen, so I completely understand your impatience with the process.
However, we're required to go through the process--and in your case, it is resulting in some lovely work.

Carolyn, I guess it sometimes takes a different pair of eyes for an artist to realize something. Thanks to you, I'm now aware of values I've been using. I swear I wasn't really conscious of it in terms of from one painting to the next to the next, rather I was only focusing on values within a given painting. How interesting to now be able to see an overview of what values I seem to like to paint. Thank you!
One thing that's weird to me is why it feels to ME like I don't have any particular style yet, let alone a "distinctive" one. Does anyone else feel this way?
What a funny, and such an understandable way to put that: a personal weirdness that you're experiencing. Oh how I understand that! And wanting things to be dependable and fixed. Is it a confidence thing, not feeling like you have a 'style'? I don't know...
But I always tell myself to Paint Anyway.

Jala, there's a real tension in this piece. Your conscious and unconscious minds are well mended. Ride the wave, who knows what the next breaker will bring. Yep, I go through the same thing as do many, many others! Comfort is a killer. Problems bring resolution. Eventually
Wandering around the place is ok. Kind of like going for a walk...we always end up back in our own home, or our own painting stlye. Your work is great.

Your style is distinctly your own, even if it morphs temporarily towards something "other".
What attracts me to your work- repeatedly, is your elegant use of color. And by that I mean, well thought out and patina'd.
That subtle orange glow on the underside of the left pear says it all in a whisper.
Every one of your paintings shows a deep understanding of the goo inside the tubes. How you choose to apply it is still very much your own signature.
I agree with all of the above, you have a VERY distinctive personal style. Just keep doing it and trust the process. The orange reflections on these pears is masterful.
