Cherry blossoms

I had broken a little branch of these off to put in a vase a couple of days ago. Good thing, as the next day we got 16 inches of snow.

This painting went really fast and I tried not to mess with it too much, so that it would express the freshness and simplicity of the subject.

Beautiful painting, Jala - kind of reminds me of Whistler - the colors and the paint application.
Great job!

Do you feel like this maybe has some of the abstract, some of the realistic? Is it just my looking at it directly after your yesterday's post?? I don't know...I agree with Loriann. The edges (I keep looking at the branch behind as compared to that one distinct blossom in the front) are quite beautiful.

Yes, beautiful edges, and beautiful muted glow. It's perfect.

16 inches of snow? Yikes! I'm so sorry....

This is beautiful, Jala. I like Loriann's comparison to Whistler - I hadn't thought of that at first but certainly agree.

Hi Jala, This is such a beautiful piece. Elegant is what I'd use to describe it.

Well, I guess it's unanimous... a lovely painting. I like the play between the blossoms and the blue-grey background, and the in-focus branch and blossom with the softer edges elsewhere. Interesting.

Thank you all so much. It was really fun to get a painting so fast, too. I made almost no changes after putting down the initial strokes.

Kim - Fortunately for us, in Boulder the sun melts the snow within a couple of days. But it was quite a load all at once!

This is gorgeous - I love the colors and the softness. And I see what you mean about similar compositions - you what they say about "great minds..." :)
