Champagne mango

Another attempt on the linen panel, a dismal experience throughout the whole painting until the very end, when I got so frustrated I just took a big brush to the whole thing and made angry swipes too fast to think (no thinking is often a very good thing in art). The end result, here, was much improved.

Jala, I was just musing (actually worrying) that I was the only one without a style and wondering what, if anything, I should do about it. And then I came across your site. What a relief, I love following your latest entries, it could have been me you were writing about.
(I'm not as candid) Also unsure of the RayMar panels, just trying them out myself.
Anyways, like your work alot, you seem to have much more of a style than you think, but I think I should stop thinking about it so much. Make sense? Good luck!!

Jala, you have achieved the most wonderful colours here. I imagine because you almost stood back and then "went for it" as a whole painting. It is really an excellent painting. Mary Anne could be right - I am prone to over-intellectualising myself.

I can totally relate to your lament about having a desire to have a 'fixed' style, but your different styles are really not so far off from each other and I think it's your 'point of view' that is extremely consistent. I'm chucking thinking of you and your 'angry swipes' - I get there, too, and call them "F*** it" paintings - they usually surprise me by being better than I had hoped for... I think the energy is good for a painting! Hope I didn't offend anyone with my name for that...

Wow, you do amazing things when you get angry. Maybe I should try that. :)
You've posted some really nice things lately. I'm always especially interested to see your choices of background color.
This mango is beautiful- looks ripe and sweet. I have a great recipe for mango chutney and this one would be perfect for it!

No thinking is often a very good thing. Period. Same goes for angry swipes.

Mary Anne - Thanks for visiting and leaving your thoughtful comment. I always feel better knowing other people are feeling the same way I do. There seems to be a lot of this "style angst" going around right now!

Brian E - Indeed, we should all carry a big, angry brush around at all times, I think.

Sheila - Thank you SO much for your wonderful, caring email, and for your kind comments here.

Kelley - I'm certainly not offended by the term. That is my exact thought when I get to that stage, exhausted and hating the painting. I think those very words, and then attack the painting. :)

Jean - too late, I already ate the mango.

Sam - I agree, and so does my grumpy black old cat, Random.
