I experimented here with a different pastel paper (St. Armand Sabertooth), and with crosshatching. The crosshatching, not my usual pastel style, came about because the paper seemed very weird to me and I couldn't figure out how to get coverage. I like the result and may try some more crosshatched pastels, though I fear I don't really have the required patient temperament.

I think you've got that right! This is really lovely and I see the Cezanne influence. Yet, it is a subtle one. I think the cross hatching is really effective.
Well done!
Thank you, Melinda! I'm looking forward to more experiments with crosshatching, though not necessarily on that kind of paper again.
Great colors! I like that cross-hatch texture too...very Cezanne. Did you do a rubbing for that effect?
What a great name! He looks adorable all bundled up.
Hi, Gwen, yep, he looks awfully cute while sleeping. Like most kittens, though, he's a handful while awake. No, I didn't do any sort of rubbing--it's just old-fashioned crosshatch by hand.
It does have a Cezanne feel to it. Rumi is dreaming of a fine poem.
I had to laugh, at first the painting and the Rumi picture looked so similar, as though one had influenced the other. Lovely colors and an interesting texture from the paper. I'm not sure I would have the patience for cross-hatching either...
Rumi sounds like a perfect name for a cat. Don't they all live on a different plane from us?
Hi Bill! "Rumi is dreaming of a fine poem" sounds like the first line of a poem already...very meta.
Hi Donald. Funny, I didn't realize until way after the fact that both posts were in shades of green! Cats definitely all do live on a different plane of existence than us, but this little guy lives on even a different plane than other cats!
Love the cross hatching on this piece, gorgeous colors, very mysterious! This is a great direction, just beautiful! Also, just love the feline updates!
