Thank you so much, Marian! I guess what I mean is, I also find the results of knife-only painting really interesting. But the PROCESS of it, the few hours I'm actually doing it, feel like undergoing some kind of torture. It drives me insane.
I completely agree about knife paintings, Jala! This does have a lot of energy, though! I think my knife paintings come out 'angry' looking, because I get angry while I'm trying to paint them!
Thanks, Kelley! Yeah, I agree, there's something interesting about knife paintings in that I think they always have more energy, somehow, are livelier. I like this idea--that they look that way because we're getting madder and madder (or at least I do!). :)
Well worth the aggrevation, considering the outcome. For me, there's a place in each painting where it goes from struggle to, "oh yeah, this is actually going to happen." :D I love it when that happens.
Thank you, Mary. I also LOVE that moment of "hey, you know what, by god this thing is actually probably going to WORK!" It is another of the magical moments for me during a given painting. The other one is when it suddenly looks 3-D. That gives me no end of thrill, seriously.
I'm a painter (and writer and Spanish instructor) living in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I studied classical art in an ARC (Art Renewal Center) school, Colorado Academy of Art, full-time for two years, in order to benefit from the rigorous atelier-style training. I am currently dedicated to exploring abstract and semi-abstract art, working in oil and also in soft pastel. I firmly believe that all human beings are creative, whether or not they have yet found an outlet for the innate creative urge, and that the creative arts are the highest form of human expression. The best one so far...it must be hot in there...enjoy it......cuz they're worth the struggle.
I think you should persist, this is a vivid and sensitive painting!
