Mojito is in charge of making sure that Open Studios visitors spend an adequate amount of time admiring my artwork:

Actually, this is the slowest Open Studios I've ever seen. I don't know if people are too busy fixing their basements to go see art, or...? So far, though, I'm not even close to breaking even (the entry fee is about $350). Yikes. Really hoping next weekend is better!

Rumi seems to be doing quite well, which is wonderful. Although of course, the sudden change in food gave all three of them diarrhea... Ugh.

Oh, what a crowded couch...

And a quick video of Rumi getting moral support from his big brother, Mojito.   Mojito--the dog!--is providing moral support by way of being super tolerant while Rumi rubs against his head over and over.

Rumi needed moral support because he had to go to the emergency vet this week. (Terribly expensive, ugh.) But he is doing better so far and seems to be on the mend now. He has developed struvite crystals in his urinary tract and they have been causing him a lot of trouble and pain.

(From what I can tell, the video won't play on iphone. It also appears to be running by itself, in a loop. I didn't tell it to do that!)

Rumi spends a lot of time in his own little Rumi world...  Which is part of the reason I wanted to name him that.

Yes, I am finally painting again! And it feels so good! Frustrating, of course--but it's that artistically satisfying frustration of image-midwifery. Things struggle mightily to be born.

The Great Flood of 2013

I'm sure most of you reading this heard about the massive flooding along the Front Range here in Colorado. FEMA is even here, and people are still being airlifted out of several towns and cities whose bridges collapsed. Boulder was hit pretty hard in town, but much worse in the mountains, and really bad in places like Lyons, Jamestown, and Longmont.

A lot of places are still closed and will be for the foreseeable future, some people still unaccounted for, and pretty much every basement in every city along the Front Range has turned into an impromptu aquarium. It was really astounding. It basically rained hard for four or five days virtually without stopping. All the creeks, sewers, streets, rivers, some dams, just became overwhelmed from the sheer quantity of water.

I and my animolecules are fine. Just some water damage in my apartment, and I still haven't been able to get some of my medication because the low-income clinic shut down four days ago.

I (and hundreds of other people) went down to the Boulder creek/public library area a couple of days after the peak flooding, to check out the aftermath.

These shoes cracked me up. Don't they look like a bronze sculpture?

Some animolecules are smart and wanted to avoid the mere mention of rain...

...but of course if you have a retriever, they'll drag you out in rain, flood, hail, blizzard...
