Untitled 286

I've had almost no time lately to paint, but I've done a few small pastel works.  I'm excited about this one, because not only do I really like it, but it's also kind of a new direction for me.

Untitled 286.  Pastel.  Approx. 4" x 6".

Fennec has his head shot. He's ready for any auditions that might come his way.

I haven't blogged for a while... My life feels completely crazy juggling so many things. I'm kind of exhausted lately.
-----
The other day I went by a client's (I guess technically I'm supposed to call her one of my collectors, but that always sounds so pretentious to me) to drop off a couple of small paintings she is considering.

I got to see a bunch of my art in situ. Her house is so perfect for my pieces--she has an ultra-modern house with all white walls and a ton of light.

Here's one of my oils on linen. It's 36" x 36" (looks small! Her wall spaces are seriously massive).  She bought it about three years ago, before my divorce:

And here is my group of small white paintings, oil and cold wax on museum panel. They are 6" x 6" each and she bought them last year. She has them in a little alcove with this awesome bench. So perfect:

She has good taste, don't you think? ;)

Untitled 45

Untitled 45, Oil on linen, 18" x 36".
For purchase information, please email me: jala{at}jalapfaff{.com}.

Pulling out paintings for Open Studios, I realized I have some slightly older oil paintings that, one way or another, never made it onto the blog. This is one.

And a reminder: this weekend is your last chance to come visit for Boulder Open Studios 2012!

I watched as Fennec came and sat right on top of a sleeping Gadjo. By the time I got the camera, Gadjo was attempting to escape, his back end still all squished out flat under Fennec's bulk.

By the way, I wanted to share that Rumi is doing better lately. For the first time, he has put on a few ounces instead of continuing to lose! I hadn't wanted to say anything until now, because although he has been feeling a bit more "solid" to me lately, I was afraid it was just wishful thinking that he felt a little heavier. I had bought a cat scale, but until today (when I brought him to the vet for a reweigh), I didn't know if the scale I got was accurate.

I am really hoping that this means he'll continue to improve and that it's the single-protein diet that's finally making a difference (the assumption would be that he has IBD). Cancer is still possible, but fortunately, it's looking less and less likely that it could be FIP! Rumi, thank you for being a fighter. I'm grateful every day that you're up to your usual crazy, often obnoxious antics, and for the love you and your little best buddy share.

Untitled 40 (oil)

Oil on linen, 30" x 40".

I'm having trouble photographing these--I keep getting too much light coming at them from the upper left. But you can imagine it properly, I'm sure.

While I'm doing this style of oil, I'm practically cursing from the frustration of the constant edges (every single one of which has to be done perfectly cleanly or it doesn't look good). I swear I'll never do another one like it. Then, within a couple of days, I'm itching to start another one. Go figure.

I'm having way too much fun with this style. Someone better come arrest me or something. :)  Using up a lot of paint, though (and at this rate, will be using up all my big canvases, too. Have to get on DickBlick very soon.

One thing I like about how these come out is their jewel-like quality, kind of like stained glass. Or at least that's how they look to me. A lot of you liked the first one, the one in the previous post. Somehow I have the feeling this style will be more commercially desirable. What do you think?

Untitled 34 (oil)

Oil on linen, 30" x 40".

Sold.

It's been way too long since I did any oil painting, or a painting in this style (with painting knife only, no brushes). I did it yesterday, about 4 -5 hours. It was fun, if quite tiring. I'm very pleased with it.

My beautiful Cleo Bean, having a rare indoor nap.

I just don't understand how Fennec can be comfortable in all these weird sleep positions. But he certainly is.

Still trying to figure out why the manufacturer called them dog beds...

As you can see, the cats always exercise their feline rights to have first choice of seating arrangements. If they choose to sit on a dog bed, the dogs don't dare ask them to move. And with a sigh, the dogs go and lie on the floor.

(Below) I love this one. Jazz was occupying one dog bed already, and Mojito was pacing between the one Rumi is clearly smack in the middle of, and Jazz's. Finally he plonked himself down on Jazz's bed, hoping there'd be enough room.

And a rare moment where Miss Lemon allowed some company on "her" dog bed (she was there first).
