The painting's great but the kitten is COOL! HA! My cat Harry is a paper towel nut, and now so is Paco - I'll destroy the environment all by myself... one pet at a time....
Jala, I've enjoyed reading through your posts on your recent thoughts (frustrations?) with the painting. They're thoughtful, as well as expressing of a struggle. I feel for you, I of course know that frustration well. Keep going, I think, keep making any mark until you're sure whether that's the mark you want. That's what I try to do, anyway!
Nice painting Jala. The roots of your current work are visible in the fine composition and handling of light and texture. But still, I like the little jam jar and spoon better! Looking at both posts, I wonder if the attack on the toilet paper is what happens to one who doesn't drink enough water?
Kelley - Just make sure they're recycled paper towels and T.P. Then we don't feel quite so bad. :)
Karen - Thank you. I guess that's all we can do, keep making marks... simple but true.
Hi Donald - Heeheee. Maybe his toilet-paper attack was kind of rabid. I also like the fresh alla prima style better in my own work. I'm more drawn to it somehow. Perhaps partly because it feels bolder.
I'm a painter (and writer and Spanish instructor) living in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I studied classical art in an ARC (Art Renewal Center) school, Colorado Academy of Art, full-time for two years, in order to benefit from the rigorous atelier-style training. I am currently dedicated to exploring abstract and semi-abstract art, working in oil and also in soft pastel. I firmly believe that all human beings are creative, whether or not they have yet found an outlet for the innate creative urge, and that the creative arts are the highest form of human expression.
