Since I've gotten back, I've been doing some abstract oils work ("putting layers" onto some stuff, so nothing new to show yet). Here's a white peony from our yard from...when?...well, from peony season, whenever that was. A month or two ago?
And here's another kill-you-with-cuteness pic of the Lynxmonster. I swear, there's not a single moment that we're not like, "Grab the camera! Grab the camera!" You can't imagine how many amazing moments get missed being documented. You also can't imagine how many times the phrase "He's sooooooo cute!" is uttered around here. The fact that many of you are following Lynx as much as (more than?) my artwork bothers me not at all, in fact it cracks me up. He's a popular little guy out there in cyberspace. Will you all still love him when he grows up? he wants to know.
And on a bummer note, I've been rejected recently from two shows I applied to be in. Oh well. On we go nevertheless in our art journey...

Sorry about being turned down for the show...I love this white peony, Jala. The strokes are so expressive, each one perfect!
Maybe not every show is for every artist.
That's the only way to look at it.
Your work is true, skilled, and evocative.
Still, rejection stinks.
Paint on- I know you will.
Just like you got the best of that peony. Chunky and delicate at the same time.
Recommendation: keep that darn camera strapped around your neck at all times. Maybe buy another one so you AND your husband will never have a missed opportunity with Lynx.
He's star material. Seriously.
Even I'm saying " he's soooooooo cute. Irresistible.
Your peony just pops - really lovely. Regarding the shows - sometimes the judges are just looking for a certain look. They can be very biased.
Of course we'll still love Lynx when he grows up. You can tell him that.
I have little icons of recent art on my blog list and this one jumped off the screen...fantastic even at a small glance. Couldn't wait to get here and see the real deal. GORGEOUS! Beautiful muted colors and the brush strokes of the petals...aaaahhhhh.
I can't believe you were turned down. What is wrong with them??? Their LOSS!
As for Lynxmonster, yes kitty, I will always love you.
Love the peony and love love Lynx! How can you not smile when he's around. Hugs...
I hear that phrase all the time in our house towards our numerous animals...esp my pomeranian...I love to see the pics of your gorgeous cat. Your story about not getting accepted must be be a result due to overapplication by tooo many artists, because your art is so beautiful, professional, and varied. Keep painting, I love it!
A beautiful peony is a beautiful peony, months old or not!
Hope your trip was great,
and, don't even think twice about the rejects. Who cares! More painting! :)
Hi Jala..interesting brush stroke, or brush work! I like it! And I love your Lynxmonster's pics!
Can't wait to see your abstracts - I love them. And about Lynx? I love cats - all shapes and colors, but he has a certain 'something'.... I wish you many happy years together!
And they were jerks to reject your work. (OK, maybe not actually 'jerks' but it feels better for the moment to say that.) I bet if you go to the show you'll just about die over what they DID let in. Watercolors of badly drawn geraniums in pots, smarmy sunsets over boats (check to see if my name is on these), dogs playing poker, and ALIEN paintings! Seriously.... those were in a show I went to last summer. Fear not... a good show will want you... soon! Don't give up!
