Shot glass daisy

These are a really funny little perennial we have growing in the front yard--a sort of daisy but with stubby little short petals.

It was a profound learning experience this time with the glass--three or four times I went too far with the details of it, to the point where I'd realize that the attention had focused to the glass and not the flower. So I'd knock back the glass again, then bring it back up again...it was a dance that went on for a long time. It's fascinating how fine that line is between too much and not enough. It's one of the most interesting concepts for me in art.

Sweet little flower! And nicely rendered. Did you ever have it happen when you crossed that line into too much, and the subject of the painting really did change into something different than you expected when you started?

you've achieved the perfect balance Jala, and so well described the see-saw of painting:)

You may have danced for a while--but clearly dancing suits you! The glass is perfect. Love how the blue is just slightly smoother and more intense inside the glass. Lovely piece.

Glowing. love that highlight, and the rich cadmium tones in the flower.

Lovely glowing colour there just at the right spot. I think you got the glass perfect now and thanks for the comment in your post about "the dance" - yes, I do that too. Maybe everyone does but what a great metaphor. Love your new kitty by the way!
