Untitled 119

Pastel on PastelMat, approx. 2.5" x 4".

The first two days of the festival went well, but the third day we didn't get rained out as expected, but rather wind-ed out. The infamous Boulder wind apparently blew down the tent, the whole display, signage, etc., and most vendors had to pack up and give up on hopes of a third day of sales.

I wasn't even there to help pick everything up--I was, quite unfortunately, busy being a migraineur at home--but fortunately, my friend was there at the time and was able to help.

From the Baby Gadjo archives. They were two peas in a pod from the first moment.

Gadjo's little body looks so squeezable. Sigh.

Untitled 118

Pastel on PastelMat, approx. 5" x 5".

I've done a few things lately in a high-key palette just to experiment. I'm usually more of a medium-key painter.

If you're in town, tomorrow (Monday) is the last day of the Boulder Creek Fest. Come see SLOWCOLOR's beautiful naturally-dyed linen scarves. Our booth is near the main library entrance.

I noticed the other day that Gadjo, now at nine months old, has developed a cute little...

The bond between Gadjo and Rumi really is amazing. The instant Rumi saw Gadjo (who arrived by cat carrier, which was placed in the living room), he literally expressed what seemed to be instantaneous recognition, and gratitude: "Oh, thank you, thank you! You've brought me my best friend!"

It helps assuage the guilt of not adopting Rumi's twin brother when I got Rumi. The brother was equally wild and crazy (and deaf and white and cute), but not as people-oriented as Rumi. Two Rumis would have driven us all insane, frankly. He can be a handful.

Untitled 114

Pastel on PastelMat, approx. 3.5" x 4".

I've noticed that I've been painting with a lot of pinks and greens this spring, not colors I generally use often. I guess I'm being influenced by the rainy weather, which is producing gray skies but a very green and flowery landscape.

Spectators

Sometimes you have days where you'd rather just sit and watch.

The Husband should be returning tonight with the camera cards, so hopefully I'll be able to post some art tomorrow.

Spinning wheels dressed in saffron

At the weaving cooperative in Hyderabad, India. This yarn is not ours--it's for a different client of theirs, and it's not naturally dyed--but it looked magnificent, like the sun had come to rest inside a building. (Artists: look at the lovely reflected light!)

Today is the first day in weeks that it's warm and the sun is out. (And no Rapture, either.) Yay! These two photos are from a few days ago. The furry little heat-suckers.

Faces of India

The Husband is on a short trip to sell scarves at the Seattle Green Festival and I think he took all the camera cards, so I can't photograph my artwork right now.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these photos. India is the most colorful place I know, and this was one of the most colorful group of people we spotted in Bihar, India.

And of course, no post would be complete without a glimpse of the animolecules. The Husband heard that some white bison babies were recently born in Oregon, and his quote was "It's a sign of world peace."

Frankly, I think Gadjo and Rumi are a sign of world peace. Don't you feel peaceful gazing upon them?

Untitled 112

Pastel on PastelMat, approx. 3.5" x 4".

In other news, I'm (well, The Husband and I) working on revamping my website to make it more clean and minimalist; we ate our first baby greens of the season from our little container garden; it seems that it just won't stop raining here in Boulder, land of little rain; and Daniel Smith is having a good sale (check out the Unison pastel prices! unfortunately I already restocked recently) with free shipping for the next few days.
