Untitled 24 (Naufragio con buen tiempo) (oil)

Here's the latest oil and cold wax painting, Untitled 24 or Naufragio con buen tiempo (Shipwreck in Good Weather). 16" x 16" on museum panel.

And a couple of detail shots:

(Say in David Attenborough voice:) The wild Rumi creature, in its natural habitat, possesses an uncanny ability to camouflage itself when it senses danger. It often chooses an object like this cloth ottoman for the purpose. Alas, tragically, the bit of dark collar gives it away.

At one of the pools in town during the last two weeks of the summer (and frankly, miserably, at 99 degrees, it doesn't feel like summer is winding down at all!), they have what they call Dog Dayz. For five dollars, your pooch can go in and cool off (no humans allowed, unfortunately. That water sure looks nice and refreshing...). Here's The Husband and Mojito.
(It cracks me up that at the end, there's a guy who watches Mojito leap and seems to be trying to convince his dog to do likewise.)

One of the things I like so much about your work/blog, is the diversity of creativity you explore.
These cold wax paintings another example.

I'm looking for Rumi, has anyone seen Rumi.......?

Jala, You are making me more and more intrigued by the cold wax. Love the effects you are getting. What do you think about cold wax and landscape?
PS Beautiful painting

Looking at these cool cold waxes with the turquoise is refreshing on these summer days.

After yesterday's twist at the pool, Garrett would like to be called Naufragio.

Karen B - So am I. :)

Nancy - Thanks!

ELIZabeth - Thank you, it is so absorbing to work this way.

Hi Karena, thank you. I tried encaustic once and decided it wasn't for me; the cold wax method works much better for me. But I've seen some beautiful encaustic works.

Thanks, Tina. Minimalists unite!

Hi Bonnie, thank you. Maybe someday I'll even get into some kind of textile art. I have a few ideas in mind... but have enough on my plate at the moment.
Ruuuuuumiiiiii....yooooo-hoooo...I have a feeling he'll appear for the next blog post, not to worry.

Loriann - Thank you. You know, the workshop instructor doesn't work representationally, but I saw an example of hers for sale at the gallery that really was a landscape. Don't know if she made an exception on that one for one, or what. But it was very cool. I think frankly, the cold wax/oil method would be fantastic for landscape! I've even thought of trying it for something representational in the future for the hell of it, to see what would happen. But right now I'm having too much fun with abstract (as is nearly always the case with me).

Sam - Naufragio! Awesome! Next time I see him, I think I'll try to remember to call him Shipwreck. :D
