Still trying to figure out why the manufacturer called them dog beds...

As you can see, the cats always exercise their feline rights to have first choice of seating arrangements. If they choose to sit on a dog bed, the dogs don't dare ask them to move. And with a sigh, the dogs go and lie on the floor.

(Below) I love this one. Jazz was occupying one dog bed already, and Mojito was pacing between the one Rumi is clearly smack in the middle of, and Jazz's. Finally he plonked himself down on Jazz's bed, hoping there'd be enough room.

And a rare moment where Miss Lemon allowed some company on "her" dog bed (she was there first).

Neat painting! One reason I love abstracts is because of the open interpretation of them; to me, this looks like a cityscape of sorts. Can't tell you why, but that was the first thought that went through my head when I saw it.

Re the pet beds...yes, it's pretty obvious who wears the "fur pants" in your household - ha! It was like that at my sister's house: Monkey always had to settle for whatever dog bed Newton (one of her cats) opted out of.

I like how Rumi is always staring at the camera even when he's not the main subject.

Hi Jala! Love the colors in this one. Nice. Do you know Philip Guston's work? He's an abstract expressionist who actually later became more representational later in life. This reminds me of his paintings like "the mirror" and "zone."
Th dog??? bed story is a riot. I certainly do understand. We know who is the boss in the house.

The cats rule the dog bed here too. Poor Freda comes to "tell me" when Dinah has commandeered her bed. They just won't share!

Wonderful hues and a calm fire in that painting. Your work makes me long to work in abstraction. I can't imagine a more creative process.

Great painting! The greens and oranges really vibrate against each other.

Living with those cats and dogs must just make you smile all day long.

You and SamArtDog are NEIGHBORS! That must be one fun block.

Lovely painting, energetic, yet calming hues--sort of like the pets antics- hilarious post!

Can I share favorite status with Sam?
Not to be un-original, but I love this one too.
Do we have to know why? It's the harmony of color and the equal intensity of value that makes it almost an abstract landscape.
Your workshop experience and dollars were not wasted.

I am cracking up at the displacement quotient in your living room. Something about those doggie beds......my cats love sleeping on them too and we have the same eviction issues.
But YOU- you travel about your house with camera at the ready to make sure you document this.
I convince myself that the dogs are happier on the floor when it's hot.
But the callouses on their elbows belie the truth of that.

Fan-wow-tastic! But, I favor pink and green.

Wish I'd painted this.

Hi Sonya - Rumi is the biggest camera ham. To me this resembles fields from an aerial view. But that was not an intention, just how it looks to me now. You're right, that's the best part of abstract paintings. "Fur pants"--hahahahha!

Hi Loriann - I do. Will have to look up those particular paintings, though. Kitties always rule!

Hi Patrice - Thank you. I like that term "calm fire." It suits the painting really well.
Why not do some abstract work?

Hi Carol - Actually it's a pretty sedate block, being located in a suburb. Other than the screaming children that drive us both crazy.

FCP - Thank you very much.

Bonnie - This was NOT from the workshop, and does NOT use wax. This is a plain ol' oil, and in fact dates from pre-workshop.
Yes, we DO have to know why. ;)
Actually, the camera lives on one of two tables in the living room, so when I get a pic it's because the camera happens to be within reach at the right moment. You know how many amazing scenes go unrecorded! Living with animals is such a riot.

Casey - Wow. Now that is the highest possible praise from you. I'm very flattered.

OMG! You are so funny. Love the animal antics. I only own a fish. He is quite dashing, though.

Jala! This is just amazing! I love the palette, it's perfect. Your work just gives me such a good feeling.

And your "kids" are so incredibly entertaining. I enjoy them as much as I do your work.

Thank you so much for your comments, I so appreciate them. Poubles send their love to your babies.
