Rebecca Crowell workshop day 1

This weekend is my 3-day painting workshop with Rebecca Crowell, whose art I truly admire. Today was the first day. I'm not a morning person, so this getting up early is pretty rough on me...I got very little sleep last night and am soooo tired. But it's a great workshop! The oil paint mixed with the cold wax medium allows one to create a lot of texture, and to put on quite a few layers--maybe five or six--in a single day, if desired. These factors lend themselves well to abstract painting.

The photo shows some of the work that the class (there are seven of us) put out today. We spent some time looking at each others' websites after lunch, and I was impressed with the combined talent in that room! All the paintings shown are still in progress. Mine are the four closest ones.

This is what I want to be doing right now:

This class looks so exciting! I hope you post some of the finished pieces; they look beautiful. Too bad that cat can't do your sleeping for you. He looks really good at it!

Jala, these look awesome! Are you using canvas or cradled panels? Please post more about cold wax medium.. I'm curious....

Hard to imagine you propping yourself up for this class, but you appear to be doing fine work. Besides, better to get messy in someone else's space.

Hi Jala, thanks for sharing your course with us. I hope you get a better night's sleep soon! I too am fascinated at the cold wax technique and would love to hear more about it. Love your works at the front of the photo.
