Hi Loriann - Have been experimenting with the Lascaux and also with acrylic gesso + marble dust. I can't figure out how to apply any of these without too much texture (lines). I have done some sanding on some of them but then it seems like there's not enough tooth.
I've been considering experimenting with different grounds, like pumice/marble dust, but am worried that I'll dislike the texture after trying Colourfix paper, which I really don't care for due to the rough surface.
Wonderful minimalist piece. There are days by the sea that look just like that. The Lascaux pastel and technique are something I know nothing about, but the result is interesting. These experiments are good for growth and opening new doors!
Hi Ian, thank you, I'm glad you like it. Minimalism is not to everyone's taste, but I (and you) certainly love it.
Hi Sonya, glad you like it. I once ordered a sample pack of different pastel papers...and as a recall, I really didn't like any of them, at least at that time. My favorite overall is still LaCarte. Or, for more of a painted look, PastelMat. So far not a big fan of marble dust nor Lascaux.
Hi Donald - It looks very sea-like to me too. Glad to know I was right. ;) Experimenting...it's always good (for us, not necessarily the results).
I'm a painter (and writer and Spanish instructor) living in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I studied classical art in an ARC (Art Renewal Center) school, Colorado Academy of Art, full-time for two years, in order to benefit from the rigorous atelier-style training. I am currently dedicated to exploring abstract and semi-abstract art, working in oil and also in soft pastel. I firmly believe that all human beings are creative, whether or not they have yet found an outlet for the innate creative urge, and that the creative arts are the highest form of human expression. Hi Jala,So what did you think of the Lascaux? I see that you chose to leave the texture.

Your work 'Untitled 53' is just perfect, very minimalist with just a hint of landscape. Congratulations!
Nice! The colors are very calming.

Texture works well in this piece, for sure :).

I see the sea, too. Very simple but intriguing.
I love seeing the layers of color in this and the last post. Lovely!
Astounding!! You say so much. I hate that phrase and it's overused but dude, you say so much!!! and as always your photos are art!
it is a realy good picture of the cat and kitten, så sweet.
Hi Katherine, thank you!
Suzanne - You are too kind. Seriously, it's nice to have a non-minimalist painter (that would be you) admire my abstract minimalist works.
Hi Pia - Thank you, they are very sweet cats.
