Your pastels are just fabulous. I really like the mysterious glow coming up from behind the horizon -- almost like deep dusk peeking out from beneath some heavy clounds.
Donald, you know what, that's what it was. Not kidding! A few weeks ago, I had just left the building of the college where I teach till 8 pm, and looked over to the mountains, and there was...well, this unearthly blue glow with dark clouds over most of it... I tried to hold it in my mind, at least the basics of what I wanted to retain, and I think it was the next day or a couple of days later that I did the pastel. I guess I did something right, since you "got" it!!
I'm a painter (and writer and Spanish instructor) living in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I studied classical art in an ARC (Art Renewal Center) school, Colorado Academy of Art, full-time for two years, in order to benefit from the rigorous atelier-style training. I am currently dedicated to exploring abstract and semi-abstract art, working in oil and also in soft pastel. I firmly believe that all human beings are creative, whether or not they have yet found an outlet for the innate creative urge, and that the creative arts are the highest form of human expression. Nice work! How on earth did you create that blue glow? It's great!
It's so minimal, and needs nothing more...
Another beauty. You are on a roll. Keep painting!!!
What a great, calming painting on the heels of your bright orange beauty. I love being able to see them juxtaposed on my computer screen!
I see landscape and night here, and endless, bottomless, beautiful blue.
Jala, this is a window to dreams. r.
Jala, your breadth is amazing! You do it all - well!
This is really beautiful, Jala - I love the blues and the intriguing glow.

Thanks, all of you.
