So nice to work in oil again...
The Rothko-esque form may be derivative, but endlessly fascinates me, and I find it holds so much potential for (color) expression.
This is 24" x 36".
(The photo has some unwanted glare in the left upper area.)
It's good to have a fainting couch available for art-viewing fatigue.

ooooooooooh, your Rothko-like style is amazing, I might go so far as to say I think the vibrancy of color is extra appealing. I might go so far as to say that your explorations of color and glow make them entirely your own. Rothko gets left behind.
Derivative is a word I am guilty of using, but I like to call it a master study. Yours of MR are super awesome great, in my humble opinion. I hope you keep doing/posting them until you find what you can from them.

Jala, I'm not familiar with Rothko's work [will have to go investigate now], but I do find this fascinating. That light acid green and the red-orange...that's just awesome, for lack of a more literary or descriptive term.
Look - it's a "Rumi still life" :). I like how he almost forms a yin-yang shape with the pillow.
You're kind re the nod to my blog - thanks much :). Being on the eastern side of the Rockies, you probably get much better sunrises than sunsets, I'd imagine. I love how the underside of the clouds gets lit up at a certain point during a sunset like you captured.
Isn't everything derivative of something? Every song is made of notes that someone else used. Every dish has been made with familiar ingredients. What gets added is the personal signature.
What appeals to me ( aside from Rumi and his museum walk exhaustion ) is the way the pink dissects the two yellows, casting them into warmer and cooler casts.
And the ethereal softness.
Such sumptuous colors...! And I always love to see what new lounging place the kitties have found.
