It's weird with drawing--sometimes I feel like it'll be a great drawing night and it isn't; other times (like tonight) I go in in a bad mood and the feeling I won't be able to do anything, and things turn out well. There seems to be no predicting the outcome based on mood or on sense of ability going in.
After the quick warm-up sketches (above), the instructor had us divide our paper into quadrants (below) and in each quadrant, we had 10 - 15 minutes and a different pose, and were supposed to do something quite different each time. The lower left one is my favorite of the night.

I almost had a heart attack this morning when I went to brush my teeth and saw this in the sink:
...It's the fake "squirrel tail" toy that Lynx likes to play with.
(He likes to "drown" things, actually, and we've had to learn to keep the toilet seat lids closed all the time, or we'll find lots of surprises in there.)
And lastly, there's something about the new dog bed...

And are those these latest "Cat-of-the-Month" centerfolds from playboy magazine? That dog bed sure has magical powers-its too bad they never let the dogs try it out. Thanks for the laugh this am.
Too funny, Jala. Love the cats. It's funny they pick that position. Cats are usually cautious, and that seems like such a vulnerable way to present yourself.
Regarding mood and outcome, I agree. Doesn't seem to be much of a connection. I try to just show up. The rest usually takes care of itself :o) Nice sketches. Not easy to get a good figure in 20 minutes.
Nice drawings, Jala. I like the one in the lower left quadrant too... losts of motion/emotion in that one.
I think the dogs may be missing out on a good thing. Paws up, kitties!
Stop it stop it stop it- your kitties are killing me. I just about shrieked when I saw that " item " in your sink and then laughed when I read what it is.
Only you would even HAVE a fake squirrel tail for your cat to play with.
Those three sleeper poseurs on the dog bed are an indicator of how well adjusted Mojito is, by allowing it.
Now to the serious matter of your drawings. You creatively worked those quadrants. I even like your interpretation of human form into a Braque like series of geometric forms. I like that bottom left pose too- she's really seated in her spot.

I would have had a heart attack, too if I saw that. Callie and Devlin bring me squirrel parts every spring, and leave them at the back door. That's hard enough. Seeing something in the sink would do me in!

And I know excactly what you mean. I probably did my best drawings in nude class, when I felt crumpy and tired.
Those cats are so brilliant! they bring a smile to my face when I see them. I know what you mean about the sketching and the results.
Ya know - my cats are curl-uppers - while yours are stretch-outers.

I meant to add that your life drawings are very good-- so important to draw from life.
Wonderful drawings...and I can relate to what you were saying about somedays you never know...strange how it works isn´t it...AND your kitty kats,,,CRACK ME UP...on this shot..tooooo sweet. My cat is a "stretcheroutter" toooo. But that they confiscated the dog bed like this...what does the dog have to say? Or is this just a big cat bed so all three can fit on there all at one time all stretched out like this?
When I want to laugh Jala, I always come to your blog! I love the fact that you combine your special creatures with your art! It was great to catch up on their antics (is the skunk smell gone yet?) and to find out that you are taking a drawing class! I think you have such a delicate touch with your figures... they appear very feminine and fully described with only a few strokes of your pencil and that gorgeous shading! Can't wait to see more. :-)
