Painting awarded

Found out that this pastel, "Gubbio Roofs," was awarded an Honorable Mention this weekend in the Longmont Artists' Guild & Boulder Art Association Annual Members' Exhibition.

They kill me when they sit like this with their front paws curled in.

In Jaipur.

Private collection.

This is friggin' awesome, man! One of my favorites I've seen on your blog, I think, at least of those I've seen since I've been following it.

Congrats! No surprise it got an HR, and extra sweet that it was an abstract, no less. I think in many shows that genre gets ignored over the representational/realism work.

Felines really know how to ply their charms, don't they? The cuteness - it never ends. I'm a sucker for it as well.

Good for you! I am a sucker for the orange/yellow -- blue color arrangement. Makes me hum inside.

I was in Longmont two years ago and really enjoyed the town! Had coffee with a friend and we were invaded by a Red Hat Society group. Smart people there, too, who gave this painting an award. Congrats!

We call that cat position "meatloaf" and this coming from a life-long vegetarian.

Congratulations, Jala! I can certainly see why this won. What a beauty! That red jumps off the screen.

Your sweet kitty reminds me of the little white cat figurines in Oriental Restaurants. Aren't they for good luck?

Congratulations Jala, well deserved. Isn't validation pleasant? Warm and fuzzy like a cat. Love the images too.

Bragging rights here:
I told Jala when I 1st saw this years ago that this was her BEST. She's been hassling me to buy it ever since. Now that it's won A Major Award, the price has no doubt jumped. I'll "probably" cough it up anyway. Oy.

Congratulations, Jala! I love your blog and read it always, even though I don't often leave comments. I love your art, stories, especially the feline updates! Thanks for sharing your terrific art, and writing!

Gee, I'll have to be sure to get some more awards, so I can keep getting all these comments...;)

Sonya - Thank you! What a rousing compliment! And you may not be surprised to know that of the four I had in the show, this was the only one that was "realism." As my stuff goes, it's realism. I feel you are right--I very rarely see anything abstract awarded in shows. There's an awful lot of the little cherubic children holding baskets of kittens in a daisy patch thing goin' on.

Hi Katherine - One of my favorite color combos too. Yellow + blue, red + blue, orange + blue. All good.
Funny, I've heard of the Red Hat ladies and never seen them anywhere. Would like to. May be one.

Casey, Karen B, Karen - Gracias.

Loriann - Yeah, human nature had me first going, "Cool! I got an award!" and then five minutes later going, "Why the hell didn't I get first place?" :)
Meatloaf! Haahaahhahaha. I'm also a veggie but that's really funny.

DD - Merci.

Hi Gwen - Yeah, the good-luck kitty. Think it's from China or Japan originally? Well, perhaps Rumi brought me the luck for this award.

Karena, Jane, Elizabeth, Caroline, Laurel - Danke.

Leslie - Right you are. Like a purring one.

Sam - Like a hairball. No, I haven't raised the price. It's a bargain, lady. (If you buy it, do it in person so I won't be charged the processing fee by your clicking the Buy button. Easier too. Just twenty or so paces away.)

Suzanne, Nancy - Awwww. (blush)

PS, I love it also when kitties tuck their front paws under also...

Thanks, ELIZabeth- Isn't it adorable when they do that?!

Late as usual - many congratulations Jala on a spiffing painting (it means tremendous). As the lady said you work hard, you are inventive, you are courageous, you're a damn fine painter and now and again it's nice for that fact to be acknowledged!

Why is the super-duper secret word verification word PESTS?

Is blogspot trying to tell me something?

I love this pastel, it's beautiful. I admire how you simply and abstract forms but it's still anchored in reality somehow. . .
