White poppy
I was very happy with this one, as I was going for loose and painterly. Poppies are one of my favorite flowers, the delicateness of their petals, the openness of the blossom, their tough yet ephemeral nature.

Beautiful and loose. Sargent would have loved it. The very subdued colors are made more beautiful by the yellow inside the flower.
Lovely painting. Kind of mysterious. Really well done!
Very beautiful flower. I love how soft and understated it is.
Nice Jala. Poppies are my favorite too.
Oh, you should be happy with this! It's mysterious and beautiful. Such delicacy with so few strokes. wonderful.
Love the looseness that you left...both in the flower and in the cup that it's in.
Beautiful poppy. Great soft shadow.
I like it too. A very very nice design.
Loriann - Oh, how you flatter me!
Leslie - "Mysterious"? Cool.
Kerri - Thank you. That's definitely the effect I wanted, so I'm glad to hear it reads that way.
Mona - And there are so many different kinds, too. And I love them all.
Karen - Thanks. Yeah, the little glass bud vase it was in. I struggled for a while with it because I didn't want it to be too "solid" looking. At a certain point of working in that area and redoing it, it suddenly had just the right amount of substance for what I wanted.
Pam - Thanks for noticing the shadow. :)
I love this too....this would look fabulous reproduced on expensive fabric for furnishings. Very nice...

Poppies are tough because they are flexible! This piece has caught both: it's ephemeral qualities and it's right to exist. Absolutely stunning Jala!
From reading the above comments, I think it's a hit! Everyone loves this painting (including me).
What everyone else, said, plus: The reflection under the flower... very cool!
I like both your abstract and realistic pieces and this seems to have a little of both - great piece!
beautiful, Jala. love the looseness of this and the quiet colors.
This is so subtle and beautiful! Poppies are my favorite flowers also.
This is gorgeous. The spare brushtrokes and the touch of bright yellow. It just floats...
Maggie - What an interesting idea. Maybe without the signature though, huh?
Rahina - You're right, tough and flexible is the ideal combination for us all.
Janelle - I'm glad you like it too.
R - Cool that you noticed that. :)
Bill - Merci.
Jane - That's nice to hear. I'd like to be able to keep coming closer to melding the two opposing styles.
Liz - Thanks. It was nice working with such a restrained palette.
Akiko - Poppies and cats--we have a lot in common. Arigatoo!
Donald - Thank you. I was definitely hoping to capture that floaty feeling a poppy has, as if it's lighter than air. Of course, maybe it just feels like that to you because you're literally surrounded by water...? ;)
Not an original entry here but it's all been said already.
That reflection! And how you use neutrals that are alive is really a signature of your work.
I just love this one.
Jala, this is gorgeous! I love the softness and warms-cools you've got going here.
Thanks also for the blog visit and kind words. I would be happy to exchange links with you!
